Extension denied
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Wednesday rejected requests from the Wetlands Preservation Organization to extend the deadline for public comments regarding plans for completing the South Lawrence Trafficway.
“We simply feel that there has been ample time for all parties to review the draft environmental impact statement and submit any comments that they may have,” said Bob Smith, trafficway project manager for the corps.
Monday is the deadline for comments. By year’s end, the corps intends to choose a route for the road connecting U.S. Highway 59 at the south edge of Lawrence with Kansas Highway 10 at Noria Road, southeast of town.
