Charlene Elizabeth Overfield

Meriden Mass of Christian Burial for Charlene Elizabeth Overfield, 79, Topeka, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Aloysius Church in Meriden. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery.

Mrs. Overfield died Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

She was born Oct. 22, 1922, in Lebanon, the daughter of Francis W. “Tommy” and Agatha (Oliff) Ryan. She graduated from Sacred Heart Church High School in 1939 and later from Brown-Mackey Business College, both in Salina. She had lived in Topeka for 19 years after moving from Lawrence.

Mrs. Overfield was a supervisor in cataloging at Watson Library at Kansas University for 10 years. She was medically retired in 1983. She had worked for the federal Civil Service during World War II. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden.

She married Earl R. Overfield on May 11, 1945, in Salina. He survives in Eufala, Okla.

Other survivors include six daughters, Cheryl Ann Gober, Terrell, Tex., Patsy Ellen Mullin, Topeka, Jacqueline Overfield, Topeka, Marjorie Marie Baker, Garland, Tex., Joanne Butler, Mustang, Okla., and Kathryn Ann Orr, Basstrop, Tex.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the church, where a rosary recitation will be at 6:30 p.m. today.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the church
