Money’s not everything, but it helps with fashion

Not all billionaires look like a billion bucks.

Simon Doonan, creative director of Barneys New York, recently compiled a list for Forbes.com of America’s best-dressed billionaires.

The five that have the most style in Doonan’s eyes are Leona Helmsley, Ralph Lauren, H. Ross Perot, Michael Bloomberg and Donald Trump.

Of Helmsley, who tops the list, Doonan says: “She has perfected the bold, brassy, get-the-hell-out-of-my-way look. All of her clothes are designed to intimidate a potential adversary. Bravo!”

Describing New York mayor Bloomberg, Doonan says, “His clothes are simple, businesslike, and they fit. That’s all he needs to worry about. The last thing we need is a mayor in a Gucci jumpsuit.”

And, according to Doonan, “Ralph Lauren is flawlessly casual.”

Lauren is the only fashion-industry insider to make Forbes magazine’s annual list of billionaires.

Pitt, Zeta-Jones top Style’s ‘sexiest’ list

Mirror on the wall, who is the sexiest of them all?

In Style magazine asked readers to choose celebrities with the most you-know-what appeal. And ta-dum Missouri-born Brad Pitt drew the highest percentage of votes, 28 percent, in the male division, topping Antonio Banderas and Pierce Brosnan.

Catherine Zeta-Jones won in the female category with 37 percent. Sexiest television actress pick was Kim Cattrall of “Sex and the City.” Among female singers, Alicia Keys barely passed Shakira.

On the funny guy roster, Ben Stiller.

What is sexy, by the way? Susan Sarandon says it’s eating because “a person who says yes to food is likely to say an enthusiastic ‘yes’ to other things.” As for fabric, Donatella Versace picks “perforated leather.”

And celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkai includes subtle quiet flirtation, a fascinating mind, good posture and “joie de vivre” in his list of sexy qualities.
