He was born June 4, 1928, in Worden and attended school there. He served in the Korean War, and returned home to work for the Hercules Powder Co. He worked as a groundskeeper at Kansas University from 1973 to 1993.

He married Dorothy Louise Pickel in Oklahoma. She died July 17, 1993.

Survivors include a daughter, Melody Kurtz, Eudora, and two grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to service time on Monday at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.
