9-11 lawyers: Evidence links Saudis to attackers

? Lawyers representing families of those who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks said Friday that they had evidence that money from Saudi Arabian sources was funneled through Spain to an al-Qaida cell involved in the attacks.

The evidence unveiled Friday appeared to be circumstantial, purporting to show professional or monetary links between some in Saudi Arabia, including two members of the large Saudi royal family, leading through others to eventually reach Mohamed Atta, believed to have been the lead Sept. 11 hijacker.

“This is the first connecting dot whose existence has been revealed to the American people,” said Ron Motley, the class-action attorney heading a civil lawsuit filed by the families.

The families vowed to continue to publicize whatever their lawsuit turned up, charging that the Bush administration was not forthcoming.

The press office of the Saudi Embassy did not respond to the allegations, but the kingdom has angrily denied any links to terrorism.

Motley said that 9/11 Families United to Bankrupt Terrorism represented 2,950 victims or survivors attempting to use a lawsuit to find out where the terrorists got their funds.
