Tiger trades in irons

? Tiger Woods switched to Nike Golf’s irons Wednesday, giving him a new set of tools with the Ryder Cup only a week away.

“There’s always an element of risk any time you change clubs, any club in the bag,” Woods said. “But I think if you try them out, test them enough I’m still working on it, and hopefully they’ll perform.”

Woods, who has a five-year endorsement deal with Nike worth more than $100 million, has tested a dozen sets of forged irons since the beginning of the year. He will use them in competition for the first time today in the American Express Championship.

“It was all his decision,” said Kel Devlin, the global sports marketing director for Nike. “He’s not going to switch until he’s 100 percent confident.”
