Windy weather, thunderstorms on the way

The thunderstorms and high winds expected to hit parts of Kansas Tuesday afternoon will bypass Lawrence.

But we’ll probably see some windy, wet weather by early Wednesday evening, says Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

Tuesday’s forecast calls for the morning clouds to burn off through the day, with the temperature reaching a high of 83.

“Tomorrow will be windy, with a high of 87. Before 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon, there will be a 20 to 30 percent rain chance,” Makens said. “Then tomorrow night, after 5 o’clock on up through Thursday morning, we’ll have about a 50 percent chance for thunderstorms. Some of those could be pretty strong.”

On Thursday, some showers may linger in the area, with a high temperature of about 75, Makens said.

High temperatures Thursday through Sunday will be 80 or below.

“There could be a bit of rain on Saturday for Parents Day and the KU game,” Makens said. “But the chance of that is not real great just yet.”
