Paintings of Lawrence scenes on display

“Cedar Series #1,” above, an oil on illustration board, is among the works of Lawrence artist Colleen Zacharias Gregoire that are being featured through Oct. 31 at the Beauchamp Gallery and Frame Shop, 3113 S.W. Huntoon, Topeka.

The exhibit, titled “Landscapes,” contains oil and watercolor paintings of the Douglas County countryside and Old West Lawrence porches.

Texas singer-songwriter to play at ECM building

Texas singer-songwriter Terri Hendrix, right, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Ecumenical Christian Ministries building, 1204 Oread. She will be joined by steel guitar legend Lloyd Maines.

Hendrix is known for blending folk, country, swing, blues and rock. She has appeared at the Kerrville and Newport folk festivals and her work has been praised by critics for Billboard, the Washington Post, Boston Globe and Village Voice.

Maines has played on albums by Joe Ely, Guy Clark, David Byrne, Ani DeFranco and the Dixie Chicks. He is the father of Dixie Chick Natalie Maines and produced their new CD.

More than 200 artists in Plaza Art Fair

Kansas City, Mo. The 2002 Plaza Art Fair will be Friday-Sept. 22 in the Country Club Plaza area. Artists will showcase ceramics, fiber art, glass, jewelry, sculpture, photography, painting, wood, metalworks, mixed media, drawing, pastels and graphics/printmaking.

About 175 artists have been selected to join 55 artists invited to return from last year’s show. Lawrence artists selected are Shellie Bender and Frances Kite, both of whom will show jewelry.

In addition to the art fair, other activities include a children’s art workshop, three live music areas, Kemper Street Museum and food.
