Donations sought for memorial to former resident and 9-11 victim

Lawrence Schools Foundation is accepting donations to “Books for Centennial,” a memorial established in memory of Leslie Whittington, a former Lawrence resident who died Sept. 11, 2001.

Whittington, her husband, Charles Falkenberg, and their daughters Zoe, 8, and Dana, 3, were aboard the hijacked airplane that struck the Pentagon.

An economist and associate professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Whittington, 45, and her family were on their way to Australia, where she had accepted a sabbatical.

Whittington lived in Lawrence from 1958 to 1965. She attended Centennial School.

Donations may be sent to the foundation, in care of the Lawrence public schools office, 110 McDonald Drive, Lawrence 66044. Designate the donation for the Leslie Whittington Memorial at Centennial School.
