Conatser resigns as KU offensive line coach

Ken Conatser, offensive line coach for Kansas University’s football team, has resigned.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, KU head coach Mark Mangino said Conatser was stepping down for “personal reasons.”

Mangino said Brandon Blaney, tight ends coach, will take over as offensive line coach.

Conatser was in his first season as offensive line coach at KU.

He has 25 seasons of coaching experience on the collegiate level and 14 years at the high school level. Last year he was on the football staff at Ohio State University.

Mangino said Blaney has worked quite a bit with the offensive line, so he was selected to mentor the offensive line.

Rance Holt, offensive graduate assistant, will move over to coach the tight ends in the run game. Holt had been coaching tight ends in the pass game, Mangino said.

The KU statement said Mangino considers Blaney to be “a rising star in the coaching profession.”

Blaney was on the University of Oklahoma football team coaching staff with Mangino, helping the Sooners to an undefeated season and the 2000 national championship.

Blaney is a 1999 graduate of Youngstown State, where he served from 1995 to 1998 on the coaching staff as a student assistant, working with the offensive line and special teams.
