NFL Injuries: Titans’ end Kearse breaks bone in foot
Tennessee Titans Pro Bowl defensive end Jevon Kearse broke a bone in his left foot in the opening minutes of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles and will be out 6-to-8 weeks.
Kearse will have surgery Monday, coach Jeff Fisher said.
“Obviously, we’re going to have to go on,” Fisher said. “We’ve lost a great player for six to eight weeks.”
The three-time Pro Bowler was chasing Philadelphia quarterback Donovan McNabb on the Eagles’ second play from scrimmage when Kearse hurdled teammate Henry Ford. He immediately grabbed his left foot as he landed. Kearse tried to walk to the sideline but stopped and had to be helped by trainers.
Team officials initially described the injury as a sprained foot, but X-rays showed Kearse broke the fifth metatarsal.
He later watched from the sideline, wearing a boot on his left foot and holding crutches as the Titans rallied to beat the Eagles 27-24.
Oakland Raiders running back Zack Crockett was taken off the field on a cart after injuring his neck while covering a punt against Seattle.
Crockett was hit from behind by the Seahawks’ Tim Terry as Crockett tackled punt returner Bobby Engram late in the first quarter.
Crockett spent more than five minutes lying motionless on the Coliseum field before team doctors strapped him to a board and took him away.
Sam Adams and Charles Woodson were among several players who touched Crockett before he left.
He was able to move his arms and legs but was taken to a local hospital for tests. Coach Bill Callahan said X-rays were negative.
New York Jets running back Curtis Martin did not play the second half against the Buffalo Bills with a mildly sprained left ankle, but he said he did not believe the injury was serious.
Philadelphia offensive lineman John Welbourn broke his left leg on the Eagles’ first possession against the Titans.
