Breithaupt services

He was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Worden, the son of John W. and Charlotta “Lottie” (Rappard) Breithaupt.

Mr. Breithaupt was a farmer and stockman who worked in both central Douglas County and the Worden area. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the church board for several years. He was a former chairman of the Wakarusa Valley School Board. A member and chairman of Rural Water District No. 1, Mr. Breithaupt was also active in the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and the Agriculture Committee. He served as chairman for the Lawrence Farmers Cooperative and was named Honorary Chapter Farmer of the Future Farmers of America.

Mr. Breithaupt married Evelyn Ruth Nuffer on May 6, 1936, in Worden. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Sylvia Haas, Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Nancy Breithaupt, Lawrence; four sons, Glenn, Douglas, Kenny and Jeri, all of Lawrence; two brothers, Fred, Overbrook, and J.C., Baldwin; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary to the First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Douglas County.
