CU vs. San Diego State: Brown eager to play

? Just days after he fumbled three times in Colorado’s loss to Colorado State, Chris Brown received some good news: he only fumbled twice.

In the record books, Brown’s statistics will be changed to 21 carries for 94 yards, a touchdown and two fumbles in last Saturday’s 19-14 defeat.

The third fumble occurred on an exchange between Brown and quarterback Craig Ochs during the second half. That miscue will be charged to Ochs.

Brown is looking forward to Colorado’s home opener today against San Diego State.

“It’s not even there anymore; we have another game,” Brown said. “We’re not even worried about that. We’re just working toward becoming a better backfield.”

Fumbles are uncharacteristic for the junior running back. Brown finished 2001 with one fumble in 157 rushing attempts, 162 touches overall.

“If you force things, bad things tend to happen,” running backs coach Eric Bienemy said.

Buffaloes coach Gary Barnett is focusing on the future.

“What is important is what we do now from this point on,” he said, “and that’s where everybody’s focus is.”
