The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club’s Sept. 2 game was stratified, used the Mitchell movement and was directed by Virginia Seaver.
The North South winners were led by Clyde Romer and Steve Phelps. Jeff Rees and Don Brennaman placed second in the A strata and first in the B strata. Gladys Turner and Max Turner placed third in A and second in B. Fourth place in A went to Julia Dalton and Lester Dalton. Pat Burgstahler and Martie Hartman won the C strata.
The East West winners, in the A strata, were Paul Heitzman and Donna Johnson followed by Harry Shaffer and James Gunn. David Rhea and Christie Thomas placed third, followed by Wanda Durbin and Shirlie Vaughn. Mary Treece and Barbara McCorkle placed first in the B and C strata, followed by Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell in the B strata.
The Lawrence 299ers Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 28. The game was stratified and used the Howell movement. Don Brennaman directed the game. First-place winners in A and B were Harriet Olson and Artie Shaw, followed by Bob Huffman and Helen Huffman. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley placed third. Fourth place in A went to Chuck Hedges and Bob Anderson. Julie Ward and Emily Foster took first place in C.
The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met Aug. 30. The game was stratified and used the Mitchell movement. First-place winners in North-South were Jim Gunn and Harry Shaffer in A, followed by Patt Radford and Mildred Linley. Shirley Reese and Yvonne Hedges placed third in A and first in B. Mary Phillips and Gary Joyce took first in C.
Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell took first place East-West in A, B and C. Lois Clark and Shirley Vaughn finished second in A and B. Julia Brooks and Wanda Durbin finished third in A. Chuck Hedges and Betty Collier finished first in C. Don Brennaman directed the eight-table game.
Kenneth, Sue and Anna Hollingsworth, McLouth, attended the 2002 National Convention of the Disabled American Veterans and its auxiliary Aug. 10-14 in Dallas. Sue Hollingsworth is a life member of DAV Auxiliary Unit 60 of Atoka, Okla. Anna Hollingsworth, a seventh-grader at McLouth Middle School, is a junior member of that unit.
Elected at the convention to lead the DAV membership as national commander during the 2002-2003 year was Edward Heath, Maine. Linda Trulio, New Jersey, was chosen DAV auxiliary national commander.
Sue Hollingsworth was appointed by Trulio to serve as the national junior activities chairwoman.
Anna Hollingsworth was appointed as a personal page for Trulio.
