She was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Leeton, Mo., the daughter of Myrtle (Webster) and Henry Anderson Lewis Sr.
She attended school in Leeton, Mo., and graduated from Lincoln High School in Sedalia, Mo. She attended University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, and received her teaching certification. She was a teacher in Missouri.
Mrs. Hill had lived in Lawrence since 1933. She had been a member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church since 1939. She served on the church trustee board, was a deaconess and was a member of its Richard Allen Society, Fifth District Missionary Society, Prosperity Club and Women’s Guild.
She was also a member of Self Culture Club, Home Garden Club and Double Six Club. She served as an adviser, mentor and chaperone to Alpha Kappa Alpha and Delta Sigma Theta sororities and Alpha Phi Alpha and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternities at Kansas University.
She married Thomas Irving Hill on June 19, 1932, in Leeton, Mo. He died Oct. 28, 1983.
Survivors include a son, Thomas Irving Hill Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.; three daughters, Barbara Jordan and Charlotte Frye, both of Lawrence, and Karen Morris, Grandview, Mo.; three sisters, Frances Turk, Wichita, Mary Green, Los Angeles, and Myrtle Ann Colum, San Francisco; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or Meals on Wheels, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
