Four killed in ambush
Donna, Tex. ? Four women were shot to death in their car in an ambush early Thursday near the Mexican border after they drove home from the nightclub where they worked, police said.
A fifth woman in the car was wounded and hospitalized in guarded condition, and a sixth fled the scene and returned the next morning to turn herself in to investigators, sheriff’s Capt. Roy Quintanilha said.
Investigators want to question a man witnesses said threatened the women after they refused to leave a bar with him, telling them in Spanish that they would “pay for their decision,” Quintanilha said.
Authorities said they found more than 50 rifle and bullet casings near the bodies.
The women were apparently fired on after parking their sports car at the trailer where they all lived, authorities said. They had left the bar after it closed about midnight. Investigators were interviewing witnesses but made no immediate arrests.
Donna, population 15,000, is about 40 miles west of Brownsville.
