Sebelius helps open Democratic Headquarters

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kathleen Sebelius on Wednesday evening rubbed elbows with her Douglas County supporters at the grand opening of the Douglas County Democratic Headquarters.

During an interview, Sebelius avoided questions about whether she would back a tax increase to fund public education.

Democrat Kathleen Sebelius is on the stump in her quest to be elected Kansas governor. Wednesday afternoon, she was in Lawrence to help open the Douglas County Democratic Headquarters in the I-70 Business Center in North Lawrence. Earlier in the day, she appeared at a forum in Johnson County with her Republican rival Tim Shallenburger.

“That’s not the question to ask right now,” she said.

Instead, she continued to tout her plan to conduct a top-to-bottom review of state government to assess how resources could be used more efficiently.

Some 75 volunteers, supporters and public officials attended Wednesday’s opening at the headquarters, housed in Suite 107 of the I-70 Business Center, 1035 N. Third St.

Sally Finney, Democratic candidate for state treasurer, and Tom Holland, who’s running against 10th District Republican State Rep. Ralph Tanner, also spoke at the event.
