CSU stuns No. 7 Buffaloes

? Colorado State is no longer intimidated when it plays its higher-profile in-state rival. Three wins in the last four years makes certain of that.

Bradlee Van Pelt ran 23 yards for a touchdown with 6:20 left, and CSU survived a second-half Colorado rally to beat the No. 7 Buffaloes 19-14 on Saturday.

“We knew going into the game that this CU team wasn’t unbeatable,” Van Pelt said.

The Rams (2-0) dominated the first half, building a 13-0 lead, before Colorado (0-1) bounced back to take a 14-13 advantage.

No. 3 Texas 27, North Texas 0

Austin, Texas Chris Simms passed for one touchdown and ran for another to lead Texas to a sluggish win over North Texas. Simms was 16-of-26 for 186 yards.

No. 9 Nebraska 31, Troy St. 16

Lincoln, Neb. DeJuan Groce helped a struggling Nebraska offense by returning two punts for touchdowns and grabbing two interceptions.

No. 23 Texas A&M 31, Louisiana-Lafayette 7

College Station, Texas Brian Gamble recovered two fumbles and had an interception as Texas A&M set a Big 12 record by forcing 10 turnovers.

California 70, Baylor 22

Berkeley, Calif. Matt Nixon returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown, and Jeff Tedford made a phenomenal coaching debut as California scored 35 points in the first quarter.

Louisiana Tech 39, Oklahoma St. 36

Shreveport, La. Luke McCown passed for 448 yards and three touchdowns, including a 23-yarder to Erick Franklin on fourth down in the final minute for Louisiana Tech.
