Danette Umholtz, financial service officer for Douglas County Bank, has been installed as treasurer of the Lawrence Express Network Chapter of the American Business Women’s Assn. The organization offers professional training and personal development through a national network of business women, college students and women in retirement.

Dr. Jay Andersen has joined the Oncology Center at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. He recently completed a hematology/oncology fellowship at Kansas University, where he also holds an appointment as a clinical instructor. He received his medical degree at the Kansas University Medical Center in 1996. In 1997 he was named Intern of the Year. Andersen completed a residency in internal medicine at the KUMC in 1999. He is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in hematology and medical oncology.

Dr. Andersen has a special interest in breast cancer care. During his training he also completed a six-month breast cancer fellowship and wrote two breast cancer treatment protocols. LMH will serve as a satellite center for the protocols with KU being the primary site.

Sandra Studley, senior vice president of Douglas County Bank, graduated Aug. 23 from the University of Madison-Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. The three-year course includes teaches a variety of courses in advanced bank management. Studley has been with the bank for 12 years.

Sherry Gill recently joined Realty Executives Hedges Real Estate as a licensed realtor. Gill is a Lawrence High School graduate. She earned an bachelor’s degree in child development and a master’s degree in education from Kansas University. She also received a master’s degree in business administration from Baker University.

Dr. Steve Rosenberg, Lawrence, recently joined Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s medical staff as associate medical director of the Center for Rehabilitation. He oversees the care of patients in need of functional rehabilitation. He also has an outpatient practice based in the Lawrence Health Plaza.

Rosenberg was sports medicine chairman during his residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. He was trained in the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation. Through his training, he became proficient in electrodiagnostic studies, botulism toxin injections for spasticity, joint injections, trigger point injections, orthotics and prosthetics management, and osteopathic manipulation.

Rosenberg is a graduate of the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City and is a member of the National Osteopathic Honor Society.

Patricia Gleue has joined the Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center in child and family services. Gleue has an extensive work history in the field of child and adult psychiatric nursing, including more than 10 years service at Menninger in Topeka.

She is a clinical nurse specialist with a master’s degree in nursing from Wichita State University.

Gleue will work with children and families around behavioral/mental health issues. She will prescribe and monitor client medications and serve as a liaison with the medical community and public school nurses.

U.S. Bank recently named James Lowe as senior vice president of commercial lending. Lowe comes to U.S. Bank from Kansas City, Mo., where he worked in the correspondent banking division of a large regional bank. The Kansas University graduate has been in banking for more than 10 years. He will be located at the 900 Mass. office.

Clodualdo Maningat, Platte City, Mo., recently was promoted to vice president of application technology and technical services at Midwest Grain Products Inc., Atchinson. He will oversee technical service activities, including product application and formulation work. He joined Midwest Grain as a research and development chemist in 1986. For the past 10 years, he has served as corporate director of research and development and quality control for the company.

Midwest Grain Products also recently named Steve Wilson Jr. marketing communications assistant. The position encompasses a variety of marketing communications duties involving public relations, advertising and promotional activities and events.

Jason Zhao also recently joined Midwest Grain Products as director of marketing research. He will be in charge of developing extensive market analysis to help guide the company’s sales and marketing efforts.

Tom and Marilyn Dobski, owners of the McDonald’s franchise in Lawrence, announced their restaurant at 901 W. 23rd St. is now open 24 hours a day. The restaurant also will feature 24-hour drive-thru service and will begin serving breakfast at 3:30 a.m.

Coming events

The Kansas Emergency Management Assn. conference and annual meeting will be Sept. 18-20 at the Holiday Inn Holidome in Manhattan. The meeting provides an opportunity for state and local emergency management officials to meet for discussion and training on emergency management topics that affect Kansas communities.

The conference will consist primarily of training sessions. Dennis Mileti will be the keynote speaker. He is chairman of the Department of Sociology and director of the Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center and the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colo.

A pre-conference workshop will be Sept. 17. The workshop is designed for new emergency managers.

The KU Small Business Development Center will host “Making Friends with Your Banker” at 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at the center, 734 Vt.
