Wisconsin prep Butch taps Badgers over Jayhawks

Brian Butch has decided to play college basketball in his home state.

Butch, a 7-foot, 220-pound senior center from Appleton (Wis.) West High School, chose Wisconsin instead of Kansas University, North Carolina and Marquette at a Wednesday news conference.

Butch visited Kansas in late September.

“It’s the comfort level I felt with Wisconsin’s coaching staff and players,” Butch said. “I felt it was the best place for me to grow as a player and person and academically.”

Butch said the coaches at KU, Marquette and North Carolina took the news well.

“They all were understanding, totally,” he said. “They are all great coaches and programs.”

KU has received commitments from David Padgett, 6-11 from Reno, Nev., Omar Wilkes, 6-4 from Los Angeles, J.R. Giddens, 6-5 from Oklahoma City and Jeremy Case, 6-0 from McAlester, Okla.
