Poll shows governor’s race tightening

GOP gubernatorial candidate Tim Shallenburger is within range of an upset victory over perceived Democratic front-runner Kathleen Sebelius, according to a new poll done for the Journal-World.

All previous polls have shown Shallenburger, a conservative Republican and current state treasurer, far behind Sebelius. But the new data, which will appear in Friday’s edition of the newspaper, shows Shallenburger with a razor-thin lead in one congressional district and close enough in another to close the gap.

The survey by Mason-Dixon pollsters also shows that Republican attorney general candidate Phill Kline’s lead over Democratic candidate Chris Biggs is thinning, with enough undecided votes remaining to perhaps turn the race his way come Tuesday.
