Eagle Bend Ace: Lavern Dick of Lawrence used an eight-iron to record a hole-in-one on the par-three, 90-yard No. 3 hole at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Owen Spitz was the witness.

Equestrian Champ: Kelly Moore Newsom of Lawrence, riding The St. Louie Special, won the amateur jumping division of the All-American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio. The event is billed as the world’s largest horse show.

Gallagher Takes Eight Golds: Caitlin Gallagher of the Lawrence Aquahawks won eight events at last weekend’s Olathe Halloween Spooktacular swim meet. Teammates Emma Reaney and Molly Albrecht each captured seven events. Reese Grabill, Mariah Finley and Chelsea Dirks-Ham won four races apiece. Triple-gold medalists were Morgan Flannigan, Marcy Vickers, Kristen Karlin, Andrew Locke, Hillary Janney and Nathan Schriner. Double winners were Hannah Buchner, Ethan Fisher, Holly Elder, Zac Henderson, Chloe Portela, Eric Sparks, Zac Anderegg, Cameron Case and Yume Kobayashi.

McFall Wins Race: Brian McFall of Lawrence was the overall male winner of the second annual Clinton Volunter Fire Department 5K last Saturday.

Unbeaten Cougars: South Junior High’s ninth-grade football players never lost a game while competing for the Cougars, both this year and last year as eighth-graders. The players were Cole Walker, Kameron Demby, Mitchell White, Brian Heere, Kristian Pope, Michael Robl, Matt Stiles, Nolan Kellerman, Brandon Halpin, Travis Turner, C.J. Williams, Mark Albers, E.J. Trybom, Keith Countess, Cory Gaston, Donald Baldwin, Cameron Albertson, Peter Tuttle, Chad Buck, Mark Chapman, Travis Smith, Jesse Hardy, Justin Long, Jason Smarker and Lucas Veale. Coaches are David Lawrence and Ron Garvin.
