Hays: Two still hospitalized after deadly bus crash

The driver of a charter bus carrying students from the Kansas School for the Deaf and one of the passengers remained hospitalized in good condition Tuesday after a fatal crash.

Ronald Zimmerman, 60, of Raytown, Mo., and Tanna Kolb, 15, of Wichita, were still hospitalized from Sunday’s crash, which killed an assistant football coach for the school. Zimmerman was at a Hays hospital, while Kolb was at a Wichita hospital.

Thirty-four people from the school, including players, coaches and cheerleaders, were aboard the bus when it missed a curve on U.S. Highway 40.

Lansing: Prisoner’s TB prompts testing among inmates

The discovery of tuberculosis in an inmate at the state prison in Lansing has prompted screenings of 154 people for the disease, state health officials said.

Of those, 27 tested positive for TB infection, though none have developed contagious, full-blown tuberculosis, said DeAnna McClenahan, the tuberculosis nurse consultant for the state Department of Health and Environment.

Health department spokeswoman Sharon Watson told The Joplin (Mo.) Globe the inmate who first tested positive for TB is on medication. She said the inmate would be in isolation for two to four weeks.
