Favorite scary movies perfect for Halloween

Members of the Lawrence Journal-World Teen Advisory Board asked Lawrence youths what was their favorite scary movie. You might enjoy watching one of these movies for Halloween if mom and dad will let you, that is.

“When I was in sixth grade, ‘Candyman’ was the movie my friends and I would rent each weekend to watch and get scared.”

Melanie Werts, junior, Free State High School

“‘Halloween 5’ Out of all of these, this one was the scariest.”

Alex Barr, eighth-grader, West Junior High School

“‘The Shining’ had a good theme and good tension. If you watch it a million times, you will still be surprised.”

Jake Frydman, fifth-grader, Pinckney School

“‘Jaws’ is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, but I don’t even think it’s that scary because it’s just a giant robotic shark that eats things. Most scary movies don’t scare me.”

James Dooley, third-grader, Cordley School

“The scariest movie I’ve ever seen is ‘The Others.’ I only watched about 10 minutes, but that was enough for me. It’s about ghosts, dead people, and there’s a lot of twists and turns.

Claire Dooley, ninth-grader, Central Junior High School

Dylan Guthrie is a fifth-grader at Hillcrest School. Alek Joyce is a fifth-grader at Pinckney School.
