IN 1977

The first step toward closing Clinton Dam to create Clinton Lake was being planned for Nov. 14. City and Corps of Engineers officials were to begin impounding water behind the 9,250-foot dam on that date. Col. Richard Curl was the district engineer./

IN 1902

On Oct. 28, 1902, the Lawrence Journal editorialized: “It seems that Cuba will refuse to accept the treaty submitted by the United States. As time goes on it will become clearer and still more clear that this country made a mistake when she failed to annex Cuba when the island was torn loose from Spain.”
