Light rain, colder weather in forecast

October 28, 2002

Getting into the spirit of Halloween shouldn't be too hard this week  the forecast calls for murky, cold weather for the Lawrence area.

"There may be a mist of light rain today, tonight and tomorrow," said Matt Makens, 6News meteorologist.

You'll probably be wise taking along an umbrella Tuesday night, as rain will be likelier and a little bit heavier, Makens said.

"That heavier rain could carry over towards Wednesday morning. Then Wednesday afternoon we should start to dry off a bit," he said.

Afternoon temperatures Monday and Tuesday will be about 45, with the overnight lows dropping to 42.

Wednesday will be cool though, with a high of 40.

The clouds should part by Thursday, with a high during the day of 40. A waxing crescent moon and cold temperatures in the 30s will greet Halloween revelers Thursday night.

"Trick or treaters will have to bundle up . . . it will be a cold night," Makens said.

The temperatures will continue to slide as the weekend approaches.

"Friday and Saturday will start off in the mid-20s and end up at 42 on Friday and 48 on Saturday," Makens said.

Saturday's KU-KSU game will be cool and chilly, but at least somewhat sunny, he said.

On Sunday, the weather will warm up a little, with the highs getting into the 50s.

And the long-range forecast shows even warmer weather will make a brief comeback.

"Temperatures should get back into the 60s before the next rainmaker comes through in the middle of the week," Makens said.
