Donald Eugene Randgaard

He was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Canby, Minn., the oldest son of Frederick O. and Antis (Hampton) Randgaard. He was a 1941 graduate of Augustana Academy High School in Canton, S.D. He had lived in McLouth since 1974 after moving there from Nashville, Tenn.

Dr. Randgaard served in World War II, earning the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Badge and the Victory Ribbon. He received a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate of veterinary science in 1956 from Kansas State University. He later worked as a meat inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in South Dakota and Nashville, Tenn. He retired in 1982 as the national review officer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Lawrence. After retirement, Dr. Randgaard farmed full time near McLouth.

He married Ruth Irene Hermanson on July 21, 1945, in Topeka. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, Rex, Charlotte, N.C., Ross, Gallatin, Tenn.; three daughters, Carol Ann Finley, Monroe, N.C., Nancy Rice, McEwen, Tenn., Donna Porter, Overland Park; two brothers, Dale, Watertown, S.D., and Paul, Minneapolis, Minn.; one sister, Dorris Bergan, Watertown, S.D.; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
