Texas tornado causes extensive damage

? A tornado that ripped a 5-mile path of destruction through the outskirts of Corpus Christi, killing one person and injuring 14, caused tens of millions of dollars in damage, according to early estimates Friday.

Gov. Rick Perry declared Nueces County a disaster area as more storms loomed.

Thursday’s storm, which included a total of three tornadoes, devastated two neighborhoods, crumpled carports around tree trunks and tore the roofs off a supermarket, post office and fast food restaurant.

James R. “Buster” Gillis, an instructor at Del Mar College, was killed. The campus was closed Friday as workers repaired power lines.

The National Weather Service said heavy rain was likely for at least two more days in Corpus Christi.
