Olathe north pounds LHS soccer, 8-0

Olathe  Olathe North rolled over Lawrence High, 8-0, in the Lions’ regular-season soccer finale Thursday at the Olathe District Activity Complex.

“They’re fantastic,” LHS coach Keith Nelson said of the Eagles. “But our guys played with a lot of class. Their coach commented on the class the boys displayed, so I’m real proud of them.”

Nelson cited Sean Hargis, Ian Legler and Alex Hosek for their defense.

The Lions (2-13-1) haven’t learned their regional fate.

LHS, FSHS finish 6-7 at Sunflower meet

Olathe  The Lawrence High and Free State High gymnastics teams placed sixth and seventh at the Sunflower League Meet on Wednesday at Olathe South.

LHS senior Molly Hoss paced the Lions by placing 12th in the all-around, ninth in the beam, 12th on the bars and 16th on the vault and floor. Freshman Meredith Baxter was 19th in the all-around, aided by a strong showing on the bars (16).

FSHS junior Lacey Baxter was 14th in the all-around, but her best showing came on the floor, where she finished seventh. She also was 17th on the bars and 13th on the vault.

Defending state champion Shawnee Mission Northwest won the meet, edging Olathe East 107.85 to 107.075.

Both schools will compete in Regionals on Tuesday at Blue Valley West.

Baker soccer team clinches HOA title

Baldwin  Baker University clinched the Heart of America Conference soccer title Friday with a 2-1 victory against Benedictine.

Blake Reynolds and Matt Trumpp scored goals for No. 20 Baker (11-3-3 overall, 7-0-1 HOA). Barry Cummings and Aaron Weins assisted on Trumpp’s goal.

Baker will play again Monday at Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa.

The Wildcats have earned a No. 2 seed in the Midwest region postseason tournament and will have a first-round bye before playing host to an afternoon semifinal contest at 1 p.m. on Nov. 13.
