Ward services

Services for Louis F. Ward, 85, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Ward died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at his home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1916, in Caney, the son of Fredrick and Ada (Bird) Ward. He had lived in Lawrence since 1947.

Mr. Ward worked for 55 years at Weaver Department Store as a shipping and mailing manager until his retirement in May 2002. He was a member of Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lawrence.

He married Mabel Ruth Roberts on July 6, 1940, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Wayne, Topeka; a brother, Lawrence, Fort Scott; two sisters, Lucille Lowe, Fort Scott, and Mary Florence Frawley, Jensen Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. or to Hospice Care of Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
