LHS players of the week: Derrick Newman and Kenny Poeverlein

Positions: Offensive/defensive tackles

The game: The two biggest guys on the LHS line are two of the biggest reasons the Lions’ rushing game has been dominant this season. They racked up 444 yards rushing on 45 carries in a 41-7 win against Topeka Washburn Rural last Friday. By the end of the game, the line had dominated the Junior Blues, giving the LHS running backs ample running room.

Comment: “The whole offensive line during the course of the year, they’ve had big games,” LHS coach Dirk Wedd said.

“Those guys have been real consistent all season.”
