Old home town – 40 and 100 years ago today

IN 1962

The Kansas Board of Regents voted $800,000 toward an 850-student, 10-story residence hall at Kansas University. The name had not been announced.

IN 1902

On Oct. 21, 1902, the Lawrence Journal commented: “The candidate at Topeka who was accused of being an atheist has brought proof to bear showing that he is a Unitarian in good standing. Now he may be up against a hard proposition. Suppose the Methodists of Topeka insist that all candidates shall be Methodists, or all the Baptists demand that the aspirants for office shall embrace their faith, then the poor fellows could do but one thing with a hope for success, and that would be to take a religious census, find out which was the strongest church in town, and grapple that.”
