A 21-year-old Kansas University student was injured Thursday morning when her bicycle collided with a van at a campus intersection. Michelle Chaves, 21, was westbound coming off Hoch Auditoria Drive, said Lt. Schuyler Bailey of the KU Public Safety Office. Jeffrey Clark, 23, a housing department employee, was northbound on Naismith Drive. Each said the other ran a stop sign at the four-way stop, and the bike and van collided mid-intersection, Bailey said. Chaves was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then transferred to KU Med, Kansas City, Kan., where she was listed in fair condition late Thursday. Bailey said Chaves was issued a stop sign violation and Clark received a citation for inattentive driving. The accident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Condition reports

Ryan D. Galemore, 20, Olathe, had improved to good condition Thursday at KU Med, Kansas City, Kan. Another Olathe man, Joshua I. Walton, 20, remained in serious condition at KU Med. Both were injured Oct. 8 when their car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on Kansas Highway 10 west of Eudora.
