John Lewis Hay

? He was born Jan. 23, 1911, in Macon County, Mo., the son of John and Mary (Steed) Hay. He lived most of his life in rural Perry, then moved to Junction City.

Mr. Hay was a farmer and stockman in Jefferson County. He also leased Hereford and Angus bulls for breeding purposes in northeast Kansas and performed custom combining services and hay services for several years.

He married Vivian Grace Pentlin on Aug. 2, 1939, in Lawrence. She died Sept. 29, 1973. He married Mary Katherine Hankamer in November 1975. They later divorced.

Survivors include a son, Olen, Topeka; three daughters, Ethel M. Stevens, McLouth, Irene Yost, Junction City, and Elsie Mowder, Perry; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Gay Ilene Hay, and a granddaughter died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
