Seminar: US Bank, KU center offer firms cash flow course

Kansas University’s Small Business Development Center and US Bank will sponsor a free seminar “Developing and Using the Cash Flow Statement” from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at 734 Vt.

Robert Parrish, commercial lender for U.S. Bank, and Lori Kravets, financial consultant of SBDC, will focus on developing and understanding the cash flow statement as a finance and management tool.

The seminar is designed for both beginning businesses and existing businesses. Topics of discussion will include hands-on sales forecasting techniques, costing methods and bank evaluation. Growing businesses will benefit from the hands-on approach to managing accounts receivables, payables, and inventory for increased profits and additional cash.

Space is limited and reservations are encouraged. To make reservations call 843-8844.

Survey: Benefit cuts preferred over wage reductions

As financially pinched U.S. companies slash employees, raises, travel budgets and nearly every perk ever known to the workplace, employees say they’d rather give up special stock offers and career-development opportunities than see their salaries or benefits cut.

Only 2 percent of employees classified as “top-performing” said companies ought to reduce benefits or salaries and bonuses, according to the annual survey of 3,000 workers by Watson Wyatt & Co., a Washington D.C.-based employment consulting firm. Nearly half said stock-based compensation systems should be first to be whacked.
