Thai police to live as monks

? To fight police corruption, Thai authorities want to teach police officers the value of austerity by having them experience the luxury-free lives of Buddhist monks.

Authorities will ask about 20,000 officers nearly 10 percent of the force to spend an unspecified time period living like monks at Buddhist temples, the Bangkok Post reported.

Assistant national police chief Udom Charoen said he devised the program after complaints that officers failed to charge crime suspects who are wealthy and influential.
