Lions volleyball goes 1-2 at quad

Leavenworth The Lawrence High volleyball team handled Leavenworth but couldn’t stop the charges of Shawnee Mission East and Overland Park Aquinas at a Leavenworth quad on Thursday.

The Lions beat host Leavenworth, 15-12, 12-15, 15-1, despite quickly falling into an 0-7 hole in the first game.

It was downhill from there, though, as LHS lost 8-15, 16-14, 7-15 to SM East and 9-15, 15-12, 5-15 to Aquinas.

LHS coach Jo Huntsinger said she was pleased with her team’s rally in the first game, but then the Lions, 8-18, just fizzled.

“Our weakness today was an ability to finish,” she said. “We need to play well for an entire match, and we’re getting closer.”

The Lions’ next action comes Tuesday at a quad in Manhattan.
