Ray V. Smith

? Services for Ray V. Smith, 93, Ottawa, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mr. Smith died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Select Specialty Hospital in Overland Park.

He was born Sept. 30, 1909, in Woodbine, Iowa, the son of Ernest F. and Vivian (Harris) Smith. His family moved to Ottawa, where he grew up and attended school. He graduated from Ottawa High School. He received his bachelor of science from Ottawa University in 1932, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Mr. Smith was a farmer and stockman for nearly all his life. He also served on the Lincoln Township Board, Lincoln Zoning Board and as a tax assessor. He was a school board member and served as chairman of Ottawa Coop in its formative years. He was a friend of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa.

He married Flora Lucile Ralston on May 15, 1931, in Ottawa. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Faye McCoy, Costa Mesa, Calif., Sylvia Smith, Boston, and Carole Carey, Leavenworth; two sons, Stephen, Silsbee, Tex., and Doug, Ottawa; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

A grandson died earlier.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa, where family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.
