Alvamar CC Champs: Alvamar County Club won the overall championship of the Kansas City Area Women’s Golf League with 360 points in the eight matches. KC Loch Lloyd was runner-up with 337 points. Alvamar team members were Elaine Brady, June Adams, Darlene Allen, Charneil Swenson, Vickie Friend, Sheila Collier, Bebe Arbuckle, Connie Winters, Barbara Perry, Jan Gentry, Sherry Tiemeyer, Linda Swain, Julie Spain and Rita Pennybaker.

Punt, Pass, Kick: NFL-Gatorade Punt, Pass, & Kick competition is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Community Bible Church, 906 N. 1464 Road (Highway K10 near 15th Street). Boys and girls ages 8-15 will compete in four age groups. Winners will advance to the sectional in Bonner Springs. For information, call 749-0083.

Zygmont Hole-in-One: Piotr Zygmont of Lawrence used a 9-iron to record an ace on the No. 8 hole at the Orchards. Jon DeLeon was the witness.

Hinds, Ronan Race Winners: Chris Ronan of Lenexa and Korene Hinds of Manhattan were the overall winners in last Sunday’s nine-mile Sandrat Trail Run at Riverfront Park. Ronan won the men’s division in 51:38 and Hinds the women’s portion in 57:38.

Grosdidier Low: Mike Grosdidier fired a 4-over-par 76 to win last Sunday’s wind-blown Jayhawk Golf Club tournament at Alvamar. Both Kent Beisner and Brent Mertz were a stroke back. In the gross portion, Steve Blanchard carded a 68, five shots better than Jay Patterson and Brian Trainer. During the tourney, Randy Gebhards recorded an ace on the 165-yard No. 12 hole using a 4-iron. Witnesses were Larry Bennett, Keith Wallace and Pete Whitenight.

GD Likes City Golf: Golf Digest magazine rates Lawrence as the leading city in Kansas with access to good, affordable public golf. In this month’s issue, the magazine rates Lawrence 40th in the country as far as courses per capita, average greens fees, climate and star/value rating. The Kansas City Metro area ranks 231st, Wichita 236th and Topeka 268th. Lawrence has three public courses  Alvamar, Eagle Bend and the Orchards.

‘Rassling Saturday: Tickets are on sale at Royal Crest Lanes for a wrestling card on Saturday at the Armory, 2nd and Iowa. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with bouts set to start at 7 p.m. Lawrence’s Michael Strider and KU student Mark Ptasnik, who wrestles at Thanatos, will be featured. Other wrestlers scheduled to appear include Backlash, Sid Fury, The Iceman, Diamondback Dingo and Delirious.
