MOMS club collects for children’s literacy

The MOMS Club of Lawrence is collecting pledges during the next four weeks to raise money to promote children’s literacy.

The campaign, “Books for Babies Pledge for Pages,” will collect money during story time at 10:30 a.m. Thursdays in October at Borders Books Music and Cafe, 700 N.H. The club will also accept donations at the Children’s Book Shop, 937 Mass. There is a display at the front counter.

The money raised will buy books for newborns. Every $3 donated purchases one book.

Depression screenings offered for free today

Screenings for depression will be conducted today by mental health professionals at First Presbyterian Church, 2415 Clinton Parkway.

The free screenings, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., also will include manic-depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress.

The screenings are in conjunction with National Depression Screening Day.
