IN 1962

The Kansas University Endowment Association student loan fund ran out of money two weeks earlier than anticipated. A total of $18,000 had been allotted for October, and the fund had been exhausted in less than two weeks of the month.

IN 1902

On Oct. 9, 1902, the Lawrence Journal told of a local judge’s temporary restraining order prohibiting the Board of Education from collecting tuition from high school pupils. Max Wilhelmi had filed a lawsuit to prevent the collection of tuition, and the judge had issued the order as a result of his petition. The Journal noted, “Both sides to the controversy believe they are right; the board is holding it has special authority to collect the tuition which has been ordered, and the petitioners claiming that the high school is a part of the free school system of the state.”
