Jailed witness returns to stand in Robinson trial

? A second Canadian woman testified Tuesday that she was leading John E. Robinson Sr. along in developing a sadomasochistic relationship in hopes of learning more about a friend’s disappearance.

Tammy Taylor said she carried on e-mail and telephone conversations with Robinson from mid-March 2000 until his arrest on June 2 of that year.

“I was not truthful. I was playing him along to find out where Suzette (Trouten) was,” Taylor said. “I wanted to build his trust.”

Taylor, of Oshawa, Ontario, and Lore Remington, who said only that she was from “the east coast of Canada,” were the only witnesses called to the stand in the second day of Robinson’s trial.

Robinson, 58, of Olathe, is accused of killing three women in Kansas and two women and a girl in Missouri. His trial in the Kansas cases began Monday after three weeks of jury selection in Johnson County District Court.

Prosecutors believe Remington was one of the last people to have contact with Trouten before her death. Remington finished testifying Tuesday after spending Monday night in the Johnson County jail on a $25,000 material witness bond over concerns she would not return to court.

Remington testified Tuesday that she exchanged e-mail with Robinson, including discussions about finding a “sex master” for a friend. He identified himself as “Jim Turner,” but later she learned his true identity.

Taylor and Remington both met Trouten on the Internet. Remington met Trouten in a chat room devoted to a sexual lifestyle she said involved bondage, discipline, sadomasochism, slave-master relationships and other practices. Both women said they had such relationships with Trouten.

Remington and Taylor testified that Trouten told them in December 1999 of a new job in Kansas taking care of an elderly businessman. It was a job that offered a huge salary and international travel. A sexual relationship with Robinson was never mentioned.

Remington said Trouten told her she was busy, tired and working a lot in February 2000.

“At this point, I was concerned that she was sexually involved with her boss,” Remington said.

Following Trouten’s disappearance, Taylor said, she began exchanging e-mail with a man calling himself “Tom” who was interested in beginning a relationship involving sadomasochism. Tom, she eventually learned, was Robinson. Taylor said she continued the relationship to find out more about Trouten’s whereabouts.

Remington knew Robinson through e-mail and telephone calls as “Jim” or “J.R. Turner.” She eventually learned his real identity.

Both women said they were in contact with Lenexa Police Detective Jack Boyer, who was investigating Robinson.
