Oliver O. ‘Bud’ Shields

Graveside services for Oliver O. “Bud” Shields, 94, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Shields died Monday, Oct. 7, 2002, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Oct. 18, 1907, in Galena, the son of Otto and Verda (Hilligoss) Shields. He graduated from Baxter Springs High School in 1927 and attended Williams Institute in Kansas City.

Mr. Shields was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was the owner of Shields Amoco Service Station at Ninth and Vermont streets for more than 20 years. He had formerly worked at T.D. Funk Mortuary and worked for Alvamar Country Club after he retired. He was a member of Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14, American Legion; Acadia Lodge No. 9, AF&AM Masonic Lodge, Lawrence; 32nd degree Scottish Rite bodies of Lawrence; First United Methodist Church; and was a former member of Sertoma Club.

He married Vivan K. White on Dec. 22, 1934, in Lawrence. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Mike Shields, Lawrence; a sister, Audra Floyd, Independence; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent to the mortuary.
