Leavenworth ? Never mind pizza. Police say a local taxi company has been delivering something far more potent drugs and alcohol.

A six-month investigation into an alleged drug ring operated through Ace Taxi Service ended Thursday night, police said, during raids that turned up drugs, cash, explosives and 39 firearms.

The taxi service owner, its mechanic and a woman at the taxi stand were charged Friday. Police were still looking for five other suspects.

Fort Leavenworth spokeswoman Janet Wray said the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division heard that cab drivers were selling drugs at the post in February and called civilian authorities.

Leavenworth police said they discovered that drug customers could request an Ace Taxi driver by name, who would show up with drugs.

Ace mechanic Michael Byrns, 40, was charged with five counts each of possessing methamphetamine for sale within 1,000 feet of a school and not having a drug-tax stamp, and four counts of using a phone in a drug sale. He also was charged with one felony and one misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

Ace owner Edward Savage and the woman from the taxi stand, Jimmy Ann Jones, both 29, were both charged Friday with possessing methamphetamine and not having a drug-tax stamp, both felonies. They also face misdemeanor charges of possessing marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
