Events to honor accident victim

Several activities are scheduled today in Lawrence to raise money for the Lisa Ramos Bland Scholarship Fund 2002 Memorial.

Bland, Lawrence, died after being hit two years ago by a drunken driver on Kansas Highway 10 east of Lawrence.

The activities include a barbecue buffet and entertainment, golf scramble and a three-mile walk in Bland’s memory. Spearheading the events is the Lawrence-based Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, where Bland worked for 18 years.

Money raised will go toward creation of an annual college scholarship to a graduate of the Lawrence Catholic Schools. Bland was active in many community organizations, including St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church parish and school.

“Lisa Bland had a positive influence on everyone who came in contact with her,” GCSAA chief executive Steve Mona said. “This event will be a celebration of her life.”
