Fortville, Ind. ? Hall of Famer Gale Sayers will conduct the coin toss and speak to players on both teams prior to Friday night’s high school football game between Mt. Vernon and Greenfield.

The former Chicago Bears and Kansas University running back, who owns a computer software company, sold the Mt. Vernon school district software.

On a whim, school officials asked Sayers to attend the opening of its new 5,000-seat stadium last month.

“He was going to come Sept. 6 for our football opening and he had some family problems that came up, but then he rescheduled with us and picked Oct. 4, our last home game,” athletic director Greg Roach said. “We were amazed. It’s wonderful.”
