Rain to continue through Friday morning

Keep your umbrella handy through the rest of the day and into the evening  showers will continue through Friday morning.

“We could see as much as three-quarters to an inch of more rain coming up tonight,” says Ross Janssen, 6News meteorologist.

The showers and thunderstorms that began Wednesday have brought between a half inch to 1.75 inches of rain to Douglas County, he said.

As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, 0.73 inches was reported since Wednesday morning by Lawrence Skyhawk Audrey Kamb, who lives in southwest Lawrence.

The highest rainfall amount reported was 1.75 inches in Eudora, by Skyhawk Danny Basel.

Although October is getting off to a good start for rain, “We’re still about 10 inches below for the year,” Janssen said. “We’ll take all the rain we can get.”

He said the rain will continue Thursday afternoon.

“We’re looking at more scattered showers and a few rumbles of thunder,” he said.

Thunderstorms will rumble through Lawrence again Thursday night, with rain heavy at times, he said.

Thursday night’s lows will be in the lower 60s with southeast winds 10 to 20 mph.

The rain will continue Friday morning, coming to an end by Friday afternoon, he said.

“We’ll have a pretty strong northwest winds, 12 to 24 mph, with temperatures dropping back into the middle 60s,” he said. The lows will drop to 45 early Saturday morning.

Janssen predicted Saturday will be partly cloudy, with a high of 68.
