W. Arlyn West

Services for W. Arlyn West, 60, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private burial will be in Silent City Cemetery, DeSoto.

Mr. West died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Jan. 7, 1942, in DeSoto, the son of James T. and Margaret J. (Lawler) West. He moved in 1971 to Lawrence from DeSoto.

Mr. West had formerly worked for Bay Real Estate and Theno Real Estate in Lawrence and had been a sales associate for Stephens Real Estate. He owned a home-painting company the past 10 years.

He was a member of the National Board of Realtors, Kansas Board of Realtors and Lawrence Board of Realtors, where he served on the board of directors for a year; Kansas Grange; and a former member of the AFL-CIO. He also spent two years on the board of the Community Development Block Grant program.

Survivors include a son, Christopher A., Lawrence; his companion, Elaine Sharp, Lawrence; three brothers, Ronald D., Eudora, Garry B., San Diego, and Larry L., DeSoto; and three sisters, Carol Sue Neumann, Vancouver, Wash., Myrna Gillis and Debbie Meek, both of Lawrence.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to ARC of Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
