KU prospects to declare college choices today

Two Kansas University basketball prospects will make their college choices public today.

Omar Wilkes, 6-foot-4 from Los Angeles, will hold a news conference today at 4:30 p.m. CDT at Loyola High School to announce for Kansas, UCLA or Cal-Berkeley.

And David Padgett, 6-11 from Reno, Nev., will not hold a press conference, but will announce today for Kansas, North Carolina or Arizona.

There were TV reports Tuesday night that Padgett had selected Kansas. Informed of those reports, Padgett’s mother told the Journal-World: “We have not made that announcement. We will call coaches and media on Wednesday with the decision.”

Wilkes, meanwhile, met with KU coach Roy Williams on Tuesday night.

Wilkes averaged 22.0 points, six rebounds and five assists per game his junior year at Loyola High School. Padgett averaged 22.4 points and 14.3 rebounds for Reno High.
