FSHS tennis 3rd at Aquinas meet

? Free State High’s girls tennis team took third at the Overland Park Aquinas Invitational on Tuesday behind a title from the No. 1 doubles team of Lacey Luina and Emily Loewen. FSHS was just two points behind Kansas City, Mo., Theresa’s Academy for second. Kansas City, Mo., Pembroke Hill won.

Loewen and Luina beat a doubles team from Kansas City, Mo., Notre Dame de Sion, 9-8 (7-5) in the finals, going 5-0.

Senior Emily Wang took second at No. 1 singles, losing her first match this season.

“To have both singles and doubles players in the finals is amazing,” Free State coach Jon Renberger said. “Loewen and Luina played extremely well and knocked off three higher seeded teams to win the title.”
